Matthew Langdon (Princeton Posse), Eric Martin (Fernie Ghostriders) and Andrew Krakora (Merritt Centennials) have been selected as the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League 3 Stars of the Month for October. (Note: September stats for each player were included for selections since there wasn’t a 3 Stars of the Month for September.)
Langdon – Top Forward – The Sherwood Park, Alta., product scored 17 goals and added 12 assists for 29 points in 14 games for the Posse. He averaged 2.07 points per game and scored four game-winners (Sept. 27 versus Sicamous; Sept. 30 versus Merritt; Oct. 11 versus Osoyoos and Oct. 26 against Sicamous). Against the Sicamous Eagles on Oct. 26, Langdon enjoyed a four-goal, six-point night, which earned him Top Forward for the week ending Oct.27. With the exception of the season opener, Langdon recorded a point in 13 straight games and had nine multi-point games. He currently leads the KIJHL in points with 31 in 16 games, including a league-leading 18 goals.
Martin – Top Defenceman – The Edmonton native scored four goals and had 15 points in nine games, averaging 1.66 points per game for the Ghostriders. In their season opener, Martin assisted on the tying goal against Kimberley that went into a shootout. Against the Beaver Valley Nitehawks on Oct. 5, Martin scored the tying goal to force overtime, which they won 3-2. Against the Creston Valley Thunder Cats on Oct. 11, Martin assisted on Ben Skarsen’s overtime winner in a 4-3 final. The 5-11, 185-pound blueliner has five goals and 17 points in 11 games, which has him tied for the league lead for defencemen. Martin is averaging 1.55 points per game, which is No.1 in the league.
Krakora – Top Goalie – The Pittsburgh, Pa., native won six of the 10 games he played for the Centennials. Krakora won his KIJHL debut against the Quesnel River Rush on Sept. 20 with a 39-save performance. From Oct. 11 to 22nd, Krakora won four straight games and registered back-to-back shutouts, which earned him the Top Goalie honour for the week ending Oct. 20. Krakora had a 2.14 goals against average with a .931 save rate. On Oct. 26 in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Osoyoos Coyotes, Krakora made a season-high 41 saves. Krakora is 6-2-2 on the season with a .936 SP that ranks third in the KIJHL and a 2.03 GAA, which is also third best in the KIJHL.
