Merritt Centennials Junior A Hockey Club Advances to Junior A Tier 1: A New Era of Opportunity for Our Players

Merritt, BC – The Merritt Centennials are excited to announce our support for the KIJHL’s changes to its future structure, which will include the Merritt Centennials competing in the Junior A Tier 1 division. This elevation represents an exciting new era for current players, prospective recruits, and the broader hockey community.

The future structure of the KIJHL recognizes the league’s commitment to player development, high-level competition, and providing a pathway to higher levels of hockey, including collegiate and professional opportunities. The move brings enhanced exposure for athletes, increased scouting opportunities, and an even greater level of competition across the league.

“This is a tremendous step forward for our league and the young athletes who aspire to play at the highest levels,” said Brad Anstey, Owner and General Manager. “The move to Junior A Tier 1 reflects the dedication of our team, coaching staff, and community in fostering an elite hockey environment.”

For current players, this advancement means elevated competition, stronger development programs, and expanded opportunities to be recognized by scouts at the next level. For new recruits, it makes the Merritt Centennials an even more attractive option for those looking to develop their skills in a highly competitive and structured environment.

“We are excited for what the future holds,” added Wes McLeod, Head Coach and Assistant General Manager. “This announcement solidifies our league and our organization as a prime destination for aspiring athletes looking to take their game to the next level.”

This change to include the Junior A Tier 1 division enhances existing relationships with higher levels, especially with the WHL, and fosters the development of new relationships. As the Merritt Centennials embark on this exciting new journey, we are preparing to welcome both returning players and new recruits who are eager to be part of this historic step forward.
